Why does Germany have a German owned auto industry while every UK car maker is foreign owned?

Why is there no shipbuilding industry in Scotland and Northern Ireland any more but there is one in high wage Finland?

One word: unions.

Certainly Germany had unions too. But while they try to improve the pay of their members they realize it’s not in their members interests to destroy their employers.

In the UK the unions are run by left-wing extremists whose sole purpose is to destroy the capitalist system.

This is not in the interest of their members, who will ultimately lose their jobs.

It’s why Railway Unions went on strike whenever the company wanted to eliminate the post of Fireman; even though steam engines have not been used to power railways for some 100 years.
